Sen. Nkechi Nwaogu Dumps APC, Sets To Contest NDC Abia Central Senatorial Race

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Abia Central Senatorial District aspirant in the just concluded party primaries, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, has resigned membership of the party.

Sen. Nwaogu, a former pro-chancellor of the University of Calabar, is set to participate in the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) primaries for Abia Central Senatorial District coming up today (Thursday).

 

The decision of Senator Nwaogu to join the NDC couldn’t have been unconnected with the outcome of the APC Abia Central Senatorial primaries.

Sources within the NDC disclosed that Sen. Nwaogu will be seeking the mandate of the party of Abia Central Senatorial District extraction with one of the major contenders, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa and three others.

 

In a telephone interview Wednesday night, Sen. Nwaogu confirmed her resignation from the APC and her membership of the NDC.

 

She also confirmed of her participation in today’s NDC primaries as an aspirant for the Abia Central Senatorial District.

She attributed her decision to dump APC as a result of what she described as the “shenanigans” witnessed in the just concluded APC primaries in the state.

 

The former pro-chancellor who blamed the party leadership for failing to ensure a transparent, free and fair primaries, claimed that APC could not longer guarantee her political future.

She said that she was optimistic that she would secure the ticket of the party in tomorrow’s primaries.

 

Meanwhile, some members of the NDC and supporters of Bishop Nwankpa said that they don’t consider Sen. Nwaogu and others as threat to their boss.

The NDC will be holding their national assembly primaries across the 17 local government areas of the state through direct primaries.
