The leadership of the Abia State House of Assembly have begun the screening of 24 commissioner nominees submitted to it for confirmation by the Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. 

The screening which started about 12noon ended about 2:50pm with 9 out of 24 nominees being screened. 

A former member of House of Representatives and two other members of the State House of Assembly; Honourables Kalu Uduma (Ohafia), Paul Chijioke Madumere (Umuahia North) and Theophilous Odionyenfe Ugbaja (Ikwuano) were asked to take a bow in line with legislative privileges enjoyed by lawmakers at the State and National Assembly respectively. Including the former Accountant-General of the State, Sir Gabriel Onyendilefu who was saved from being grilled by the lawmakers after the immediate past Speaker of the House and member representing Isiala Ngwa South State constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinwendu Kanu had appealed to his colleagues to allow the commissioner nominee to take a bow, a request that the lawmakers granted when the 7th Speaker sought the consent of his colleagues.

Others include Engr. Emma Madubuko (Umuahia East), Mrs. Loveth Ojor Adimoha (Bende South), Dr. Aham K.  Ukoh (Umuahia North), Dr. Solomon Ogunji from Ndoki in Ukwa East and Prince Ezekwesiri Ananaba (Ugwunagbo) respectively. 

Former commissioners who served in Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s first tenure that couldn’t make the current Commissioners’ list include Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike (Agric), Christopher Ekweremadu (Local Government and Chieftaincy),  Hon. John Ahukanna (Health), Hon. Obinna Oriaku (Finance).

Screening of remaining commissioners will resume on Tuesday by 10am after the majority leader, Solomon Akpulonu (Obingwa East) and the minority leader, Sir Abraham Oba (Aba Central State Constituency) moved and seconded the motion for adjournment of Monday plenary.

The members during the Monday sitting before going into quashi plenary to allow the screening of the commissioner nominees passed a vote of confidence on the incumbent leadership of the state House of Assembly over what they described as the pragmatic and quitessential leadership of the current House.

Earlier in his speech, the Speaker ABHA, Rt.Hon.Chinedum Orji while reading the correspondence from Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu informing the House of the list of would be members of the State Executive scheduled for screening and confirmation said that the current leadership of the House will not tolerate any neglect by any person or group of persons no matter how highly placed the person is.

Orji thanked members and staff of the house for their support and approving of whatever transformation the 7th Assembly leadership initiated. 

The motion for vote of confidence which was moved by Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike (Umuahia North) and seconded by Hon. Jerry Uzosike (Umuahia South State Constituency) which was put to voice vote by the ABHA speaker was endorsed by the entire members. 

The House at the Monday plenary suspended motion for the presentation of the Blue Print of the 7th Assembly to enable them screen the commissioner nominees.
