Forensic to be conducted on corpses in Anambra mortuary

The Deputy Governor of Anambra state Dr Nkem Okeke yesterday asked the owners of the about fifty corpses burnt at the Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital mortuary fire to exercise patience as the State government has already involved forensic experts that will help in the identification of the corpses, as they were burnt beyond recognition.

Okeke assured the owners of corpses of timely completion of the exercise by the forensic experts.

The hapless and hopeless owners of the corpses were seen at the hospital premises making consultations with the officials of the hospital mortuary, as officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force were also on ground to maintain law and order.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Josephat Akabuike said compilation of names of the people that deposited the corpses is on-going, asking them to submit their receipts for easy confirmation.

Some of the owners of the corpses including Dr. Austin Amaechi called on government to expedite action on the identification process to enable them bury their dead ones.

Already, the State government says it will launch an investigation into the recent fire disaster in the mortuary.

Governor Willie Obiano who disclosed this during a visit to the Mortuary , described the incident as a double tragedy, and commiserated with the families of those affected and pledged to immediately commence the reconstruction of the burnt building.

Obiano emotionally called on the relatives to wait till the panel concludes and submit its findings, as he is committed to the welfare of the citizenry.

Recall that a fire incident at the Enugwu-Ukwu burnt about fifty corpses beyond recognition last week.
