Leaders from Bende North, known as the Umunna Bloc, are insisting that the 2027 election for the Bende Federal Constituency seat must go to them, citing what they describe as a binding political agreement.
According to the bloc, the understanding was that after eight years, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu would step down to allow representation to shift to Bende North.
They claim the deal was not rumor. Rt. Hon. Kalu was part of the meeting that produced it and signed the document.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and other prominent Bende stakeholders were present as witnesses.
“Succession cannot be waved away as propaganda when it no longer suits some people,” a statement from the bloc read.
“If you took part in drafting an agreement and signed it, the honourable path is to admit it existed and explain why things should change, not deny it because you are still benefiting.”
The group argued that political agreements derive their strength from trust, especially when keeping them becomes hard.
For 2027, the Umunna Bloc says the mandate belongs to Bende North.
