Abia CP Inaugurates Violent Crime Response Unit, Reaffirms Commitment To Professionalism

Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has inaugurated the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to tackle violent crimes in the state and also part of measures to introduce strategic reform across its tactical units in the state.

 

The inauguration of the personnel of the VCRU by CP, our correspondent reports, was in line with the vision and directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu to build a Police Force that is professional, humane, accountable and effective, the Abia State Police Command has implemented strategic reforms across its tactical units.

 

Our correspondent reports that the inauguration followed a rigorous process of screening, selection, and specialized training, culminating in a comprehensive orientation programme designed to instill discipline, operational efficiency and the highest standards of professionalism.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Commissioner of Police assured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, discipline and coordinated crime-fighting efforts.

 

He emphasized that acts of impunity, misconduct, or abuse of power will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He further called on members of the public to support the Police by providing timely and credible information.

 

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Civilian Oversight Board, HRH Eze Linus Mba, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Board’s readiness to support the Command through intelligence sharing and effective oversight. He assured the command that the Board will diligently serve as a bridge between the Police and the public, while upholding transparency and accountability.

 

The Abia State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Danladi Isa, remains steadfast in its commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing, strengthened community partnership and the protection of life and property across the State.

According to the State Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, the Uunit headed by a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Emeka Amanchukwu, an experienced and professionally trained officer with over 15 years of distinguished service.

 

Chinaka said “The VCRU is specifically mandated to respond to and investigate all forms of violent crimes across Abia State with speed, precision and professionalism.

 

“The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Eze Linus Mba, who also serves as Chairman of the Civilian Support Board; representatives of Human Right organizations, the Nigerian Bar Association, Amnesty International and other critical partners, as well as officers of the newly inaugurated Unit.

“To strengthen accountability and public trust, the VCRU will operate under the oversight of a Civilian Board comprising representatives from the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, Human Right bodies, the Nigerian Bar Association, Amnesty International, among others. The Board is expected to provide independent oversight and ensure strict adherence to human rights and other professional standards.

 

“The Command has also established a fully equipped operational base for the Unit, strategically located at Orji Uzor Kalu Bridge, Aba, with additional sub-units across the State.
