The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced that the party would be holding its primaries tomorrow, October, 2, ahead of the planned local government area election across the 17 local government areas of the state.

 

PDP in a statement signed by Mr. Jude Chijioke Ndukwe, Media Adviser to the state PDP Caretaker Committee, headed by outgoing chairman and former Abia House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, did not announce the venue for the primaries, but however confirm the participation of the PDP in the coming local government election.

Ndukwe who disclosed that the caretaker committee was inaugurated on Wednesday, September 25 at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia, the state capital, said the party decided to fully participate in the local government chairmanship and councillorship elections in the state after a meeting of the Caretaker Committee and the party’s stakeholders held on Friday, September 27.

Ndukwe, who called on all PDP stakeholders at the Ward and LGA levels are to immediately put machinery in motion to conduct primaries for the election/selection of candidates for the purposes of the LGA elections said that they are free to choose using Consensus / Harmonization or Direct Primaries to choose their candidates.

He further announced that the cost of obtaining nomination forms for the office of the Chairman for female aspirants is ₦100,000, while Male aspirants pay ₦200,000.

 

The media adviser further disclose that the office of Councillorship for female aspirants will be ₦12,500, while their male counterpart ₦25,000.

 

Ndukwe further warned that “It is important to note that Councillorship election will be held in INEC wards and not ABSIEC wards.

 

“It is the hope of the party that members would take advantage of this opportunity to participate fully in the LGA election processes and ensure victory for the PDP.

“The Party faithful present passed a vote of confidence on the Caretaker Committee and promised to work assiduously together to ensure victory for the PDP in the forthcoming LGA elections.
