Christmas: Be Security Alert, Abia CP Charges Residents

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala has charged indigenes and residents of the state to be security conscious as they go about celebrating this year’s Christmas.

Bala in a statement issued Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna urged residents to ensure that they report suspicious movements in their areas to the nearest police or security formation within their area.

The State Commissioner of Police also informed residents of the state and their visitors of the ban on sale and use of fireworks which he stated were still in force.

“All extant laws prohibiting the sale and use of fireworks popularly known as ‘knock-out’, ‘banger’ etc have been activated”.

The Police Boss who disclosed that all the surveillance and tactical teams of the Command have been placed on the alert to ensure that various flash and nipping points were well policed to ensure the safety of citizens and their property, added that the teams have also been mandated to enforce the order on use of fireworks before, during and after the yuletide.

Disclosing that the command would not hesitate in prosecuting anyone found violating the provisions of the law, CP Bala warned parents/guardians to advise their children/wards to desist from the use of fireworks while sellers are also advised to withdraw the same from their stocks.
