A member of an armed robbery gang operating in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State has met his untimely death.
The deceased identified as Tochukwu alias “Toboy” was killed by angry mob at Azikiwe road after a failed operation.
While a member of the gang escaped death by the whiskers, another member of the gang simply identified as “Wayo Boy” who was evacuated from the scene by his relatives after he was left to bleed to death by the angry mob would only have God to thank if he makes it alive. This is as reports have it that not that he lost a lot of blood, the mob was said to have driven a huge nail into his forehead.
Dangerous weapons including a machete and scissors were found inside the burnt commercial tricycle.
Commercial tricycle operators lamented that the activities of hoodlums using commercial tricycles to rob innocent Aba residents and visitors has brought them to public scrutiny and continued harassment by security agencies even when they were trying to make ends meet legitimately.
Narrating what happened, a resident of the area, said “one woman was at Ama Ogbonna bus stop waiting to enter bus or Keke to other part of the town when suddenly three guys in a Keke slowed down and snatched away her handbag from her and zoomed off.
“A bus driver who saw the incident asked the woman to hop into his bus and they went after the hoodlums.
“The driver took another street and double crossed them at Azikiwe road by St. Joseph’s junction where he hit them with the bus.
“The Keke collapsed on top of them. People who were around rushed them and started beating them. Shortly afterwards, the mob started using weapons to hit them.
“Toboy died on the spot while “Wayo Boy” was taken away from the scene by his relatives.
“With the amount of blood he lost and injury inflicted on him.
“Toboy is the only boy of his parents and the Keke was bought by his in-law not quite long.”
A source who claimed to have known the deceased and the other injured colleague very well told our correspondent that both “Toboy and Wayo Boy live around Obohia in Aba South LGA.
According to the source who preferred not to be mentioned, said that Tochukwu was the only son to his parents who adopted him and another sister since they were not able to make children.
Late Tochukwu whose parents live around Ibo road axis of Aba South LGA, is said to be the opposite of his sister who is well mannered.
