Court Remands 4 suspects in Umuahia Correctional Center

A Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital has order the remand of four persons arraigned before it by the Abia State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the Umuahia Correctional facility.

They were remanded in prison custody until the 21st Day of July when their trial would commenceThe suspects were arrested by the personnel of the NSCDC at different locations in the state for engaging in various criminal activities including stealing of yet-to-be refined crude oil and vandalization and stealing of rail line slippers from various rehabilitation sites.

Infonet9ja.com gathered that while two of the suspects; Ndubuisi Samuel and Donatus Ogbonnaya Eze were arrested at Isuikwuato LGA for vandalizing railway properties, Sule Bula and Biliya Musa were arrested on the Ubakala axis of the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway for conveying ten thousand liters of adulterated AGO in their MAN Truck by NSCDC personnel at their checkpoint.

The suspects, it was gathered, were arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation by the NSCDC investigation team.

They were arraigned on Monday at the Federal High Court I on two count charge of-Conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum products.

The unlawful authority dealing on the petroleum product which reportedly runs contrary to section 3(6) of the miscellaneous offences act, Cap. M17 law of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN), 2004 is punishable under the same act.

The suspects were said to have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

When parading the suspects before journalists at the State Command’s Headquarters in Umuahia, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Ayinla Olowo disclosed that the four male suspects were arrested through intelligence gathering.

Olowo said “There is no alternative to peace, I call on our people to promote dialogue in resolving issues so as to strengthen peaceful co-existence, deescalate hostilities and grow the economy.

“I am in Abia to work. We will greatly involve the locals who we expect to provide timely information to us. However, we will come hard on vandals who are the real threat to Nation’s economy.

“They have two options; either to turn a new leaf or relocate from the state as the long arm of the law will catch up with anyone caught breaching the peace of the state.
