The member representing Bende North State Constituency elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Hon. Chijioke Chukwu said that he will not relent in engaging the Peoples Democratic Party government of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in positive and constructive criticism.

Chukwu had last week Wednesday emerged as the Minority Leader of the State House of Assembly, ending the leadership of Sir Abraham Oba; member representing Aba Central State Constituency, who had held that position since 2019.

Hon. Chukwu, was unanimously agreed within the members of the Minority Party in Abia State House of Assembly to become the Minority Leader after the member representing Arochukwu State Constituency; Hon. Mike Ukoha defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to APC, giving APC more numerical strength among members of the opposition parties in the Abia State House of Assembly.

The emergence of Hon. Chukwu, a first time lawmaker (after defeating former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe of the Peoples Democratic Party), according to political analysts, is a milestone which will go a long way to boosting the relevance of the APC in the state.

A social commentator, Mr. Godswill Ibeabuchi described the emergence of Hon. Chukwu as the Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly as laudable and an indication that the party is not only becoming acceptable in Abia State, but a viable opposition capable of giving the ruling PDP, good run for their money in the 2023 general election.

Speaking on his emergence, Hon. Chukwu who stated that he still has so much respect for the former Minority Leader; Sir Abraham Oba of the APGA said his emergence as the Minority Leader means hard work and more service to the people of the state.
