The Abia State Governoship screening committee setup by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully screened and approved three aspirants for the upcoming governorship primaries of the party in the state.
Recall that some of the party stakeholders and an aspirant who had bought the expression of interest and nomination forms, had protested when the State Working Committee of the party issued a release, stating that they have zoned the governorship seat to Abia Central.
Aspirants that were successful include Mascot Uzor Kalu from Abia North, Henry Ikoh and Eric Opiah from Abia Central Senatorial District respectively.
The successful screening of the three aspirants has put an end the rumours over the Governorship ambition of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu in the 2027 polls.
Information however has it that following the directives from the President, the Deputy Speaker who was in Kaduna at the weekend in solidarity with the Speaker of House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas who declared his interest to run for the House of Representatives for the fifth time, had been screened and cleared by the House of Representatives Screening Committee for Abia State.
Other aspirants cleared for the House of Representatives seat include Chris Nkwonta, Sam Nwogu (Ukwa East and West Federal Constituency), Nnamdi Jato, Prince Obiah, Prince Udo Alozie, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Njoku, Lady Achumba (Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo federal constituency), Uzoma Ihuka, Patrick Onwuka and others (Isiala Ngwa North and South federal constituency).
Also cleared include Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, Lucky Igbokwe, Ugonna Irokazi, Randy Uka Nwoko (Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency), Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu (Bende federal constituency), Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha (Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency and Dan Okeke, Ifeanyi Ogbonna (Ohafia/Arochukwu federal constituency).
According to reports, those cleared for Senate included Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (incumbent Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District), Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, Hon. Sam Onuigbo and Emeka Atuma (for Abia Central).
While Nyerere Anyim, Paul Ikonne, Hon. Dame Blessing Nwagba and Erondu Uchenna Erondu were cleared by the APC Senate Screening Committee.

When contacted, the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Uche Aguoru disclosed that the screening committee in the state would be concluding their job tomorrow, adding that they would release the names of successful aspirants.
