An aide of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia state and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abia North senatorial district in the 2019 election, Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu has debunked the rumour that his principal was critically ill and flown to Germany.

Several online medium had yesterday reported that Kalu, publisher of Daily Sun Newspapers was sick and rushed to a German hospital where he went into coma and was in serious condition.

According to the report, “Kalu’s condition was critical when he arrived the hospital and deteriorated quickly despite all efforts by doctors. Kalu was in his country home in Nigeria over the weekend and was seen in some public functions without any sign of ill health”.

Ukaegbu, debunking the report which he described as fake news stated that he spoke personally on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning with Kalu who he said is in Germany on business trip as he had always been.

Ukaegbu, the former deputy chief of staff, Abia Government House during the tenure of Kalu and the early part of that of Chief T. A. Orji, said the fake news was the handiwork of political hackers and hoodlums who feed fat on falsehood against Kalu.

“Nobody should take that report with any atom of seriousness because it is the handiwork of political hackers and hoodlums who have nothing doing and see fake report on Kalu as their source of income and livelihood”.

He said that political enemies of Kalu know that their time in the state was up since there is going to be a level playing field in 2019 election and they try to spawn fake reports against the former governor to bring him down, adding that they will fail.

In his words, “Political enemies are at it again because they know that their time is up; they know there is going to be a level playing ground in 2019 election and they are aware that Kalu is going to win the Abia North senatorial district seat and they think that the best way to stop him is to continuously dish out fake news, thinking that is the only way to stop him.

“The other time, the rumour was that his name was not in the APC register and when that could not work out, they came with another rumour that he was screened out by his party to contest the election and that even his name was not on INEC list of those to contest the election.

“When all these failed, then they came with the fake news that he was among Nigerians banned by the federal government from travelling out of the country. As that also hit the rocks, when they learnt he travelled to Germany on his normal overseas business trip, they now said he was rushed out of the country critically ill, I wouldn’t know if they said half dead.

“To put the matter straight, I spoke personally with Kalu on Tuesday night and again Wednesday morning after he might have finished speaking with his lawyers over his case that is coming up next week. He is in Germany hale and hearty, meeting with his business associates from around the globe”.
