A former pro-chancellor of University of Calabar, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, has bowed to pressure from political stakeholders, members and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 2 Amaitolu, Mbutu, Umuojima in Osisioma local government area of Abia State to contest for the Abia Central Senatorial seat in 2027 general elections.

This is even as the party received over 500 members of other political parties that defected to the APC in the ward in support of Sen. Nwaogu’s political aspiration.
Our correspondent gathered that the leaders of the party in the ward had approached Senator Nwaogu, urging her to contest the 2027 Abia Central Senatorial District, following a leadership vacuum and absence of quality representation from occupants of the seat over the years.
All the APC party stakeholders cutting across women, youths and the party leadership in the ward who thanked the lawmaker for yielding to their request, described Sen. Nwaogu as not just a square peg in a square hole, but the most qualified to fly the flag of the party in Abia Central Senatorial District in 2027, the reason they were compelled to ask her to run for the seat.
The stakeholders who also described Sen. Nwaogu as an astute banker, politician and public servant who has distinguished herself in service in the private and public sectors Nigerian economy, noted that the former lawmaker in all her services, has not had any dent while she served the nation and the state at various political capacities, an act that they said was uncommon among public office holders in the country.
The stakeholders including Hon. Enyinna Ubani, former Commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport in the state, Hon. Mrs. Clara Nwaobilor and among others said that their decision to present Sen. Nwaogu for the Abia Central Senatorial seat is because she is not a political rookie, but one with the experience and contact to turn around the fortunes the zone.
Berating the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker for under representation which they claimed to have further deepened absence of governance and quality representation of the Abia Central Senatorial District, warned the party against making the mistake of nominating (through consensus) or electing during the party’s primaries, someone who lacks the political might to mobilize and to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other members of the party in 2027.
The ward chairman of the party, Chief Iheanyi Ugwuzor who described Sen. Nwaogu as an astute politician noted that the decision to ask the former pro-chancellor of university of Calabar to run fleet the Senate was unanimous, adding that she is not just the most qualified, but the best amongst the people who have indicated their interest to run for the Abia Central Senatorial District.
He however warned the state leadership of the party against fielding people with little or no political pedigree and sagacity for Abia Central Senatorial District in 2027 if the party wants to win the election.
In her acceptance speech, Senator Nwaogu, while accepting the call by her people to contest for Abia Central Senatorial District on the platform of the APC, thanked her people over their decision to unanimously nominate her to run for the Abia Central Senatorial District race in 2027; a decision that she said that she will not take for granted.
She said that her decision to accept the call by the ward leaders and members of the party to make herself available for service was reached after she had sought the face of God.
Sen. Nwaogu who sought the support of her supporters and party leaders, noted that her experience as a lawmaker stands her out among other interested aspirants who have little or no legislative experience.
Nwaogu, who prided herself as the highest elected ranking officer in Umunneato Ngwa APC, promised that her service in the senate in the next four years will bring development which the Abia Central Senatorial District has been lacking in the last 12 years because of absence of representation by those who have occupied the seat.
The former lawmaker who is seeking for only one term in office, enumerated her previous achievements in office and called on her supporters and members of party in the senatorial zone to ensure that they put the mandate of the people of Abia Central Senatorial District in the hands of neophytes.
Painting a graphic picture of how the Umunneato people have been marginalized by their Umuahia counterparts, Sen. Nwaogu said her mission to the senate is to also ensure parity in power rotation between the Umunneato and their Umuahia counterparts who has done 16 years in office.
She used the opportunity to call for support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others that will be seeking for political offices on the platform of APC in 2027.
