A female student of Federal Government Girl’s College (FGGC), Old Umuahia in Umuahia South local government area of Abia State has bitten off the tongue of another student.
The incident, our correspondent gathered happened in the heat of a brawl that ensued after the two boarding students finished having their breakfast in the school’s dinning hall with their mates.
The students who are said to be both classmates and tablet mates are in their Senior Secondary School 1 (SSS1).
They were identified as Adaeze Chibueze (victim) and Amarachi Nwabueze (culprit).
According to sources in the school, it has become a usual practice among the boarding students to “trade” their meals with each other, who will be willing to reciprocate the gesture any time they were served with a meal that the other person don’t like eating.
“What the students do is that, any time that the school serves them food that they don’t like to eat, they will trade (give out) their food with someone who will be willing to give out her own food any time the school serves what she doesn’t like eating.
“Take for instance, if the school served beans and student A doesn’t like eating beans, she will give out her own share of the food to someone who likes eating beans, but doesn’t like eating yam or plantain.
“Any day the school serves yam or plantain as the case may be, the girl who gave out her beans but likes yam will eat her potion and that of the person that she traded her beans with to make up for the food she traded the other time.”
It was gathered that on that fateful day, Nwabueze refused to trade her food with Chibueze in reciprocation of the food her friend and classmate traded with her as they had agreed to do.
This, it was gathered, angered Miss Chibueze who waited until they left the dinning hall to vent her anger and frustration with Miss Nwabueze.
Reports have it that the two had serious brawl over what happened in the dinning hall which resulted to fighting and in the heat of the fight, Nwabueze bit off part of Chibueze’s tongue, causing the classmate to bleed profusely.
The victim was said to have been taken to a private hospital where she’s being treated and the remaining part of the tongue being stitched as such severe medical case couldn’t be handled in their school clinic

The incident was said to have forced the school authority to lock out day students and other staff outside the school, until about 10:30am to open the school gate, when that must have put everything under control.
Unconfirmed reports have it that the culprit was later taken into custody by the police.
There hasn’t been any official statement from the school at the time of filing the report.
When contacted the Abia State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka said that the police were yet to have official report on the matter.
