The acting Rector, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Dr. Chidinma Ndukwe has described last Friday’s victory of the governor of the state, Dr. Alex Otti at the Supreme Court as prayer answered.

 

The acting rector who was addressing academic and non-academic staff of the polytechnic at the institution’s pavilion today, during a prayer session organised by the management of the polytechnic to mark the official resumption of academic and administrative activities for the new year said that they have long prayed for the victory of Otti at the Supreme Court.

The acting rector, who reminded the staff of the polytechnic of the need for them to support the Otti led government through hard work noted that the victory of the governor of the state at the Supreme Court was a huge relief for workers of the polytechnic.

This is even as she pledged that the staffer’s of the polytechnic would not relent in their support for the governor of the state.

 

She said “He is a man that God has sent to wipe away our tears. We are very grateful for what God has used you to do in our school today.

“This is a new Abia Poly. God has visited Abia Poly. We want to promise our amiable governor that we will no fail him. We will continue to do our work.

 

“We will continue to produce students that are credible; who can represent this institution and state anywhere. We will keep producing students that we all can be proud of.”

Engr. Ndukwe while urging parents to send their wards to the school, said that the school boasts of qualified staff and modern learning equipment that would help them equip and train their students to compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.

 

This the acting rector said was the reason their students have not only distinguished themselves from their contemporaries, but have gone ahead to gain global recognitions as they (students) at various global competitions have won laurels while participating in global competitions and events.

“We teach them what they ought to be and what will make them useful in any endeavour where they go to.”

 

Deputy Rector Academics, Dr. Fijo Kalu while responding on behalf of other staff of the polytechnic corroborated the rector, stating that it was no longer a time, the staff became slaves in the hands of government and their agents.

 

Kalu who described Otti as a man who attaches value to human lives, adding that Otti within the few months in office has shown commitment to the welfare of workers in the state and Abia Poly in particular.

 

He said that so many good things are coming, adding that, the workers who have been denied promotion in the past would soon get promoted.

 

He thanked God that the change in the school and the state was happening at a time when the acting rector was at the helm of affairs in the polytechnic.

The Deputy rector and other staff went further to plead with the governor to kindly confirm Dr. Ndukwe, the first substantive female rector of the polytechnic with “governor Otti, confirm her, Gov. Otti, we need her chants”.

 

He pledged the commitment to duties of the workers and to drive the vision of the governor concerning the polytechnic.

 

However, unknown to the acting rector and management that the workers had another plans, the jubilant staff conscripted the management team to join and lead them in a solidarity rally for the Supreme Court victory Gov. Otti.

The workers bearing various inscriptions that read “many years of slavery without salary payment has come to an end. Many years of cry without salary payment has come to an end and among others describing their happiness which saw them march through the school to Brass and PZ junction causing gridlock on the ever busy Aba-Owerri road, and later terminated in the school compound.
