The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the arrest of the two policemen that were demanding for tips from a Dutch tourist.
The two policemen at a police checkpoint in Oyo State whose video had since gone viral, were unaware of the bodycam of the tourist who filmed them while they persuaded the visitor on a motorbike to part with some cash.
Though Infonet9ja.com could not independently confirm when the policemen were filmed, by the tourist, Netizens have taken to various social media platforms to condemn the actions of the policemen, adding that, not only did the policemen embarrassed themselves, their family members or the Nigeria Police Force, but have further brought international disgrace to the already battered image of the force.
The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force apparently pissed by the level of shame its personnel have brought upon the federal government controlled agency has ordered for their arrest.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement confirmed that the two policemen were Special Constabularies (The Special Constabulary is the part-time volunteer section of statutory police forces).
Recall that former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase who is the chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC) had urged the police hierarchy to change the uniforms of the special constabulary from the regular police to differentiate the two.
Infonet9ja.com reports PSC noted that the special constabulary was a creation by the Police Act but not recognised by law and the Commission.
This medium Investigation revealed that the call for a change of uniforms followed reports of unprofessionalism by some officers of the Kano State Special Constabulary, especially some repentant criminals recruited into the Force.
Adejobi who identified the officers as Constabularies under the Oyo Command of NPF disclosed that they have been arrested by the state Commissioner of Police (CP) Adebola Ayinde Hamzat.
According to the FPRO the Oyo Command CP has launched a disciplinary procedure on the matter, adding that the actions of the Policemen were not only unpolice, unprofessional, unacceptable, but a punishable acts
“The Police Special Constabularies who were caught in a viral video demanding money from a Dutch woman rider at Ojongbodu area along Iseyin/Ogbomosho Road in Oyo, Oyo State have been appended.
“The Constabularies were arrested by the police authority for their unprofessional, unacceptable, and punishable acts.
“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, has instituted a disciplinary procedure on the matter immediately.
“The police authority has condemned the act and ordered that the men and their supervising Divisional Police Officer be sanctioned accordingly.
“Such an act is unpolice and would never be tolerated in any manner.
