Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his successor, Dr. Alex Otti for the first time after May 29, met on Saturday at Arochukwu, Arochukwu local government at the burial ceremony of Barr. Nimi Ohuabunwa, wife of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, the Senator that represented Abia North Senatorial District in the senate between 2015-2019.
Recall that the former governor of the state, Dr. Ikpeazu was conspicuously absent at the swearing-in and Inauguration ceremony of Dr. Otti as the 5th Democratically elected governor of Abia State at the Umuahia, Township Stadium on Monday May 29.
Our correspondent gathered that the handover of government official documents was done between the outgone Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem and the incumbent, Kenneth Kalu, an indication many pointed out to show no love lost between Ikpeazu and Otti’s government, following controversies and tantrums between the outgone PDP led government and the incoming Labour Party administration.
On the day Otti was being sworn-in as the governor of the state through the 2023 March 18 polls, Ikpeazu who was in the state was being received by his kinsmen and party stakeholders at his Umuobikwa country home in Obingwa local government area of the state, an action many political analysts pointed to the fact showing that both Ikpeazu and Otti has got severed relationship.
Also remember that Ikpeazu had accused Otti and his legal team of making his term in office hard as Otti pursued his tribunal case to the Supreme Court, an act that the former governor said was a distraction to his first four years in office.
However, contrary to expectations of many, Otti and Ikpeazu who sat at the front row during the period the funeral service lasted, exchanged pleasantries and were seen smiling at each other.
Other prominent Nigerians who attended the burial include the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike were also in Arochukwu to grief with the bereaved family.
