History was on Saturday, July 15th made in Abia State as a leading privately managed school in the state; Intellectual Giants Christian Academy (IGCA) in a ceremony that attracted dignitaries from all walks of life came together to join the management to mark the 25years anniversary of the school.
The event which held at the school’s main campus auditorium located at No. 40-50 Esiaba Street, Umungasi in Aba North local government area of the state also attracted old boys and girls of the prestigious, blazing and reputable private school who doing excellently well in their different spheres of life both in Nigeria and beyond the shores of the country.
For parents who came with friends and family members, the event provided them the opportunity to celebrate with their children/ward(s) who are graduating into the next class or graduating out of the school.
For the old students, it was a moment of nostalgia as they recalled sweet memories of their days as students of the school and the person that they have become courtesy of the tutelage, guidance and counsels that they received from both the teachers and management of the school headed by Rev. Dr. Margaret E. Ngwu, the Executive Director, IGCA.
For the graduating students, especially those in the senior session, it was an emotional day for them as they were faced with the reality that they were going to leave with the memories of school that has nurtured and groomed them to become better citizens in the last six years.
It was a time for them to thank God for His guidance throughout their years in the school, with the hope that whatever that they have been taught will help to guide them through their future endeavours.
The outgone Senior Prefect of IGCA, Eze Chigozirim Wisdom in his valedictory speech said “I will never forget the year we all were enrolled into this prestigious institution in 2018.
“We all came from different families, with different mindset and world views to be trained and prepared for a successful future.
“The preparation process was not easy at all; instead, it was painful and strenuous. Sometimes, we feel like we were being maltreated, but now we know that we were only being prepared to be valuable and relevant in the future.”
Wisdom, who spoke highly of the values attached to discipline in the school, disclosed that the reason some of his mates could not graduate with them was because they were suspended for truancy and other offences that were contrary to the standard set for the students by the school’s management.
The IGCA outgone Senior Prefect while charging other graduating students to uphold the virtues that have been inculcated in them by the teachers, also thanked the management for their tireless effort in ensuring that they have the best conducive academic environment to learn.
In her welcome address titled “The Story Behind The Glory”, the Executive Director, IGCA, Rev. Dr. Margaret Ngwu (FIMC, MCASON) described the journey to the Silver Jubilee celebration of IGCA as challenging, but rewarding.
“Most cases, people see and admire an already made and successful person/organisation.
“They see the Glory as it shines bright and desire to be like him/her. But many do not seek to know the story behind the Glory, nor are they willing to learn from what it costs to reach such an enviable height.
“Today, you are opportuned to hear the story. What people see now is someone who is “accomplished”, someone who is living out her dreams.
“In these 24/26 years of God’s favour, it was not always easy. However, God did not forget me when I was in the middle of them.”
According to Rev. Dr. Ngwu, within the 25 years of the establishment of its first campus in Aba, the school now boasts of four other campuses in Aba, the commercial nerve of the state and Umuahia, the state capital.
She added that the sixth campus of IGCA is ongoing at 50 Woji by YKC, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
This is even as she stated that under her leadership, the management has been able to establish an ultra-modern and fully equipped Specialist Hospital; Elos Specialist Hospital located at No. 32 Azikiwe road, Umuahia, the state capital, as part of their contribution to provide quality and affordable healthcare services to Abians.
The IGCA Executive Director who noted that the school has performed creditably in WAEC and other external exams charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the school and also reminded them to always put God first in all that they do.
