The acting Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Mrs. Chidinma Ndukwe has promised that the vision of the new administration in the school would be to restore the glory of the polytechnic.
Mrs. Ndukwe who is the first female Rector of the polytechnic since its inception, while speaking at the 36th Emergency Meeting of Congregation of the polytechnic called on the staff and students of the school to rally round the management of the school to achieve the vision of the visitor of the polytechnic and governor of the state, Dr. Alex Otti.
The rector who also charged the staffers of the state-owned polytechnic to be committed to duties also urged them to eschew extortion, corruption and among other negative vices that had hitherto beclouded them.
The acting Rector who disclosed that the management under her watch has started making concerted effort towards boosting their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), promised to not only reactivate the bakery and confectionery business, but to ensure that they go into commercial production of bread and other confectioneries.
She further hinted a committee has been setup that would drive the establishment of a Business School in the polytechnic aimed at meeting the yearnings of the large population of businessmen in Aba who have been clamouring for an opportunity to get further adequate education and improved skills.
Mrs. Ndukwe who said that she was hopeful that the polytechnic would be partnering the state government in the fabrication of waste management material to help manage waste in Aba and the state, adding that the institution’s School of Science and Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology and Environmental Design and Technology have good analytical and testing equipment in their various departments which she posited that such testing and laboratory center can serve for the certification and approval of products for commercial use.
