Electricity users in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State and other areas under the Aba Ring-fenced area being managed by Geometric Power, Osisioma would heave a sigh of relief as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reconnects them to the national grid today (Monday, May 1).
TCN in a statement signed by one Engr. Dr. E.A Eje Market Operator/ TCN disclosed that the decision to reconnect Geometric and others to the national grid was through the intervention of the Hon. Minister for Power, Engr. Aliyu.
Eje in the statement said that they would be forced to disconnect Aba and other parts of the country again if they failed to clear their debt before the expiration of a 60 days grace, starting from May 1.
The statement credited to Eje read “Market Operator – Transmission Company of Nigeria wishes to announce that it is set to reconnect, at midnight today (1° May 2023), the three Distribution Companies earlier disconnected from the Electricity power grid as a result of non compliance with he Market Rules.
“This is coming at the intervention of the Hon. Minister of Power, Engr Aliyu, who has considered the collateral consequences on the paying Customers.
“These Suspended & Disconnected defaulting Market Participants will be reconnected to the National Grid at the instance of the Honourable Minister of Power.
“The intervention by the Honorable Minister of Power has automatically prolong the grace period to 60 days from this publication.
“All Market defaulters should comply with the provisions of the Market Rules with respect to payment of their outstanding invoices, posting of adequate Ba guarantees (BG), and forwarding of their active Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) he case may be, to the Market Operator/TCN.
“It should be noted that other defaulters who are yet to be Suspended/Disconnect should cure their defaults within this sixty (60) days.
“At the expiration of this grace period, the Market Operator will resume sanctions in line with the Market Rules.
