APGA Deputy Governorship Candidate Reportedly Detained In Aba

The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and member representing Aba South State Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Obinna Ichita has reportedly been detained at the Aba Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force.

Ichita was said to have been arrested by police personnel at the Abia South Senatorial District result collation center and taken to the Area Command after he reportedly tore the result sheet of one of the electoral wards in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections for Abia South Senatorial District.

While information about the incident was sketchy at the time of filing the report, it was gathered that Ichita had arrived venue of the result collation when members of his political party escalated an attempt by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Aba South to tamper with the outcome of the poll.

It was learnt that Ichita was being interrogated at the Aba Area Command over his action at the election result collation center.

When Ichita, in a telephone interview denied being arrested by the police.

The Aba South State Constituency lawmaker said that the story a figment of the imagination of those behind the story.

He accused the state government of sponsoring the rumour against him.

He also denied tearing any election result sheet.

He also accused the INEC Electoral Officer (EO) for Aba South LGA of colluding with some security agents to run away with the results collated without announcing them, which he said was contrary to the new Electoral Act.
