The Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Uzochukwu Chijioke was reportedly arrested and detained at the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Umuahia, the state capital on Sunday.
Information has it that Prof. Chijioke was reportedly arrested by the security agency over his alleged role in the delay of electoral materials to their various polling wards and units on Saturday.

When contacted the PRO of INEC, Bamidele Oyetunji denied the arrest of the state INEC boss, but however said that he was asked to step aside.
Asked what was the cause of the REC being asked to step aside, Oyetunji declined further comments.
