Former Manchester United Defender, Rio Ferdinand has been decorated with an Honourary Doctorate Degree by London South Bank University (LSBU).
Announcing the cheering news through his Facebook handle on Thursday night, elated Ferdinand wrote “I’m incredibly proud to be presented with a Honourary Doctor of Letters by LSBU.
“Growing up in my community, I never thought anything like this would be possible… we were made to feel there was a ceiling or to stay in your box.
“I hope it inspires young people to believe & to have a dream (like all young people should).. we need to continue to learn, to help communities and to break down the barriers that too many people face in their lives.
“Without my parents drive & ethos none of this would be possible.
“Setting up the Rio Ferdinand Foundation gave us an opportunity to empower young people to be built up and to then become the inspirational leaders within their communities – with the backing of corporate companies offering opportunities to those that come through the foundation.
“Thank you to everyone at LSBU: London South Bank University for their warm welcome today & wishing all the graduates success in the future.
