NSCDC Destroys 8 Illegal Refineries In Abia- Says Olowo

The Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ayinla Taiye Olowo on Thursday charged officers and men of the command to remain focused and committed in carrying out the Corps’ mandates which among others include protection of lives and critical national assets and infrastructure of government at all levels.

Commandant Olowo speaking at the command’s headquarters in Umuahia, the Abia State capital during a crucial meeting he held with Personnel attached to the Command’s Anti Vandalism Team lamented that activities of vandals on pipelines and other national assets in the state and other parts of the country which he stated has cost the country economic damage.

The State Commandant while reinstating that commitment of the command under his watch to deal decisively with those he described as economic saboteurs as he reminds his personnel of their core mandates said “let me remind us that every Nation’s economy sits on her Critical National Assets and Infrastructure hence any attack on the Critical Infrastructure is a direct attack on the economy and this, we must vehemently resist.

“The Protection of Petroleum Pipelines, Telecommunications Infrastructure, Power Installations and others remains our core mandates that must be vigorously carried out ”

Meanwhile, the State Commandant seized the opportunity to hand down the zero tolerance directives of the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi against all forms of Vandalism of Petroleum Pipelines, bunkering activities and all illegal dealings in Petroleum products.

According to him, “while the Corps has redoubled efforts towards arresting and prosecuting vandals, we will equally not spare any Personnel whose activities are reasonably suspected to be inimical in realizing our mandates”

On the Abia State Government’s directives regarding the disbandment of all Petroleum Task force operating in the State, Commandant Ayinla said he had directed his Men to fully enforce it.

“While I charge you once again not only to remain focused but also ruthless to all enemies of our Nation’s Economy, remember that in carrying out these important directives, rules of engagement must be strictly followed.

“The enviable reputation of the Corps earned over the years must be jealousy guarded ”

He used the opportunity to thank the general public for their confidence in the Corps by providing credible and actionable intelligence information which have enabled the agency to record many successful arrests of suspects.
