How Gov. Ikpeazu Sacked His In-Law From Office

The governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has ordered the immediate removal of his in-law, Rowland Nwakanma, the Deputy General Manager of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) from office.

The sacking of Nwakanma is coming about two weeks after his Umuahia counterparts, Eze Okwulehie was booted out of office by the Governor.

Mr. Nwakanma, a cousin to Abia First Lady, Dr. Nkechi Ikpeazu has over the years come under heavy criticism of Aba residents over his poor waste management system causing heaps of refuse to liter some parts of the commercial town.

Infonet9ja.com reports that several outcries over the under-performance of the now sacked ASEPA DG and calls to remove him from office met brick walls.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday morning by the Secretary to the State Governor (SSG), Barr. Chris Ezem on behalf of the Governor of the State said also relieved of their duties were all the Local Government waste management Zonal Heads in Aba except Aba Owerri road, Ikot Ekpene road and express.

The statement went ahead to direct that the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Barr. Sam Nwogu to takeover and oversee Aba Waste Management and to immediately advertise for the engagement of Professional Waste Managers to handle the Various Zones.

“The Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has approved the immediate removal of Chief Rowland Nwakanma, the Deputy General Manager Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) Aba and all the Local Government waste management Zonal Heads in Aba except Aba Owerri road, Ikot Ekpene road and express.

“All the Sweepers in these areas are not affected and should continue to discharge their daily duties of keeping the roads clean.

“”Government further direct that the Honourable Commissioner for Environment should takeover and oversee Aba Waste Management and to immediately advertise for the engagement of Professional Waste Managers to handle the Various Zones.

“Government will henceforth not Condone any lapses in the waste management effort in Aba and Umuahia and accordingly expect immediate evacuation of all residual wastes in all locations around the city of aba and Umuahia without any delay.”

Some of the residents of Aba while reacting on the sack of the ASEPA DGM said his sack was long overdue.
