The people of Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State have applauded the efforts of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji to promote sports especially among the grassroots.
This is even as the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Lucius Ugorji has also joined the Olokoro community to thank the Speaker of the State House of Assembly for choosing to cite one of his Constituency (stadium) projects at Santa Crux Secondary School under the care of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia.
The President-General of OCDU, Chief D.E.A Nzenwa who led a delegation of Olokoro Welfare Association (OWA) which included traditional rulers of the area, conveying the appreciation of Bishop Ugorji hope that the stadium sited in the community would add to the aesthetics of the community, help keep their youths positively engaged and produce sports stars from not just in Olokoro, but the entire 17 local government areas of the state.
The Olokoro community leaders while pledging their continued prayers for the Speaker, also promised to protect the facility from those that may want to vandalize the sports facility, assuring their commitment in ensuring that construction work on the site was unhindered.
In his response, the Speaker told the delegation that he decided to embark on the mini stadium projects across constituencies because sports is the only thing that guarantees and engenders peace and peaceful coexistence among the youths, and also keep the youths away from social vices.
