Unknown gunmen kill Samuel Kalu in Aba

A 35-year-old Malaysia returnee identified as Samuel Kalu has reportedly been killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State.

The incident was said to have happened at Umuibe Street, off Item road in Aba South Local Government Area of the state.

Kalu, an indigene of Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of the State, but resident in Aba before his departure from Nigeria was said to have returned to Aba from Malaysia to meet his family members and friends a few days before he was killed by the gunmen.

Information has it that late Kalu had finished having a haircut in a makeshift barbing saloon and was on his way back home before he was gunned down by his assailant.

Investigation by our correspondent has it that the commercial city in the past four months, has witnessed killing of young boys and girls by gunmen suspected to be cult members, a situation many residents living around Ama Ogbonna, Ngwa road, Osusu, Eziama, Immaculate and among others have expressed fears that it might grow worse if nothing was done to stem the activities of cult groups by security agencies in the state.

It is not up to one month that a similar incident happened somewhere at Agu road. We don’t have security here.

“Personnel of Abia State Vigilante Service (AVGS) were not too far from the scene of the incident. We now sleep with our eyes open, with what happened; it means that no one is safe.

“We are begging and pleading with the state government to improve security around this place. We have boys that do watchnight, but this incident happened during the day when people have gone out for different reasons, No one was expecting this to happen.”

An eyewitness that simply gave his name as Emmanuel stated that while he was drinking in one of the shops along the road, he saw a group of boys numbering fifteen heading towards a direction.

According to Emmanuel, it wasn’t long after the same group of boys returned from the same direction they were headed, that he started hearing shouts and upon inquiry, he was told that they gunned down the young man who was later identified as Kalu.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna could not be reached for comments, but a source within the Abia State Police Command confirmed the incident, adding that they were investigating the matter.

The Aba South Transition Committee Chairman, Fred Ogwo who visited the scene condemned the killing.

Ogwo assured that the perpetrators would soon be nabbed by security agencies.

If police confront those boys you claimed numbering 15 and eventually nothing is found with them the public will start to complain that police are intimidating youny boys in Aba probably tag them yahoo yahoo boys later the story would turn to end police brutality. Most of our Nigeria youths are thief, cultists and are not ready to change only a sincere government with stringent law will deliver us.
