NGO disburses N40m to Abia youths trained in various vocations

A Non-Governmental Organization (Connak Foundation), based at Umuegwu Okpuala, Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Govt. of Abia State has disbursed the sum of forty million naira to fifty Abia youths trained in various vocations by the Foundation.

Speaking at the official handover of cheques to beneficiaries of 2019 Connak Foundation Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative Grant disbursement, the chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Mrs. Carole Emeka- Sunday said that of the forty million naira, two of the beneficiaries received Two Million naira each.

Mrs. Emeka-Sunday also disclosed that four persons got one, five hundred thousand as thirteen others one million naira each, respectively.

Further breakdown showed that the rest of the beneficiaries received seven hundred and fifty thousand naira, five hundred thousand naira and two hundred and fifty thousand naira respectively.

Mrs. Emeka-Sunday who stated that the essence of the empowerment was to ensure that the youths do not depend on white-collar jobs for survival advised them to apply the fund judiciously for the purpose it was given.

She added that the ability of the beneficiaries to put the money into good use will not only help to generate employment in the society, but will go a long way to spur the NGO to do more.

According to Mrs. Emeka-Sunday, the recipients were trained in various vocations such as Information Communication and Technology, Leather Works, Fashion Designing, Auto- mechanic, Furniture making, Confectionary, and food processing.

The Chief Executive Officer of Connak Foundation noted that the gesture by the Organisation was a challenge for other wealthy Abians to emulate the example of the foundation so as to impact positively on the less privilege in society.

“In 2019, we carried out free medical and surgery services where over 5000 persons from the immediate community, the state and other states of the Southeast, South-South and indeed other parts of the country were treated of various ailments.”

Recalling how the NGO in 2012 when it kicked off gave what it described as “revolving loan” to widows and indigent women and later upgraded its intervention to skill Acquisition, award of scholarships and other empowerment and philanthropic schemes like drilling of borehole in the host community, at William Memorial and Adanma Okpara secondary school and free medical services, Mrs. Emeka-Sunday said that plans are already underway to train and empower more youths in various skills.
