The Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere has washed off his hands on the re-arrest of an Aba based lawyer, Barr. Emperor Ogbonna by the operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) at the premises of a Federal High Court in Umuahia, the state capital after the court granted him bail.

Ogbonna, whose law firm is at Market road in Aba, was about six weeks ago arrested by the Abia State Police and arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Umuahia North Magisterial District over alleged cybercrime against Gov Ikpeazu.

Nations investigation has it that the lawyer was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Umuahia earlier in the week but was immediately rearrested by men of the DSS in a manner accusing fingers were pointed at the CoS and Abia State Government.

However, the NBA in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kunle Edun, demanded for the release of Ogbonna, alleging that he was re-arrested at the court premises on the prompting of the state government.

But Agbazuere while addressing journalists in Umuahia on Thursday stated that although the state government had sued Ogbonna, for cybercrime over his comments against Governor Ikpeazu, but denied that the state had no hands in the re-arrest of the lawyer by the DSS.

According to Agbazuere, he disclosed that from his findings that Ogbonna, was re-arrested over other divisive and subversive comments against President Muhammadu Buhari, on his Facebook page.

He further stated that Ogbonna, on his Facebook page while referring to Nigeria as an Islamic Republic also called for the impeachment of Buhari and the removal of Northern Nigeria from the County.

He added that Ogbonna, who described Northern Nigeria as an illiterate population and the biggest problem of Nigeria also made inciting comments that Buhari hates the Igbos.

Agbazuere posited that the National leadership of the NBA was misled to assuming that the state government engineered the re-arrest of Ogbonna, by the information put forward to her by the leadership of NBA Aba branch.

“Paragraphs 1,2and 3 of NBA press statement clearly confirmed that at least Mr. Ogbonna has accepted that he re-shared a post on his Facebook page that Governor Ikpeazu, went to India and took an oath before a Hindu god to mortgage Abia state. He also made other posts on this. Governor Ikpeazu has never visited India all his life and as a law-abiding citizen, he took recourse to the law instead of self-help.

“Governor reported this case of cybercrime to the police and the police arrested Mr. Ogbonna and charged him before the Federal High Court in Umuahia for cybercrime and not terrorism as that misinformation from NBA Aba Opines.

“On April 28, 2020, the Federal High Court Umuahia granted Mr. Ogbonna bail and adjourned the matter to May 25, 2020 for hearing. This is the much involving the Governor and we are ready to prosecute the case. No government official even attended Court on the said day.

“The NBA headquarters and the public can now see that NBA Aba carried emotions too far and thus misinformed NBA headquarters. I know the NBA leadership will never support crime but I’m nonetheless appalled that my NBA could hurriedly issue a press statement on an issue without hearing from the other side,” stated Agbazuere
