A dispatch rider on the convoy of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), Inspector Ali Gomina, died in an auto accident on Friday.
Though information about the circumstances that led to the death of Gomina was still sketchy, Osinbajo reportedly aborted his trip immediately, as soon as he received information about the accident.
Inspector Gomina was said to be escorting the Vice President to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, when the accident that claimed his life happened.
A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande, however said the Vice President had to cancel his scheduled trip as a result of the fatal accident.
“With grief in our hearts, we announce the death of one of the police escort riders on the Vice President’s convoy, Inspector Ali Gomina, aged 45, who was involved in a road accident while on official duty today.
“The accident occurred on the road to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The Vice President, who is greatly saddened by this occurrence, has aborted the ‘scheduled’ trip.

“The Vice President described Gomina as a diligent, hardworking and serious-minded officer who will be greatly missed by the team. “He is survived by his wife, children and relatives. May his soul rest in peace” the statement said.
