Onogwu who attributed dilapidated roads to the inability of the station to sustain the popular Aba Marathon said that the management saw the ‘Evening of Carols’ which it started last year, as another means of bringing happiness to Aba residents and as well as putting them in the mood for the reason of Christmas celebration.

The news manager who added that the event is non-profitable as participation and attendance is free, also disclosed that the event is non-competitive as it is meant to entertain and keep the city lively.

In his words, “Right from our inception in 2013, we made it a point to give the city a very huge event every year. We’ve kept to that. We started with the Aba Marathon which was the first of its kind in the state. We also had the Valentine and Musical shows.

“A lot of questions have been asked why we didn’t continue with the Marathon after the third edition, but it’s actually because of the nature of our roads that we couldn’t continue. Just when one part is getting better, the other part is spoiling.

“The management sat back and said are we going to relax simply because we don’t have good road for Marathon? That’s why since last year we figured beyond the musical concerts and the Valentine shows, we should have something better which is where we brought the Magic FM Evening of Carols.

“We started last year and we saw the success it recorded when we did it indoors. Due to popular yearning, we decided we’ll make the second edition popular.

The event starts from 3 pm and we have 46 choirs with the time given to each choir and soloists to perform.”

“There’s no political colouration to this. Everybody is free to come. It’s free and it’s about giving back to the Aba society. We’ve leverage on the successes we’ve recorded here, the acceptability by the people and we’ve decided to say thank you.
