Campaign against banditry: Gov Ugwuanyi inspects work

As part of his measures to ensure that the state was free from the activities of hoodlums who have through their illicit actions put the state in bad light, the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the weekend inspected the ongoing clearing of bushes at Umuogbua Ihe, Awgu Local Government Area, along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

Infonet9ja.com gathered that hoodlums have over the weeks been using the bushes and forest as hideouts for to commit heinous crimes along the busy road leading commuters in and out of the regional headquarters of the Old Eastern Nigeria.

The governor also paid unscheduled visits to Agbudu Community in Awgu L.G.A and security checkpoints along Four Corner- Ozalla- Udi road, as well as Udi Forest, where he had interactions with the policemen on duty and some villagers, respectively.

Recall that Ugwuanyi who had visited the Umuogbua Ihe, Ihe-Agbogugu-Ogbaku-Amurri and Isu-Awaa-Agbudu forests in Awgu LGA ordered the immediate demolition of Agbogugu and Isu-Awaa-Agbudu caves to enhance the security of lives and property in the areas.

The governor equally inspected the ongoing construction of a military base along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway by Umuogbua Ihe, Awgu LGA and further directed that the bushes around the tunnel/kidnappers’ den should be cleared immediately.

Gov. Ugwuanyi who was taken around the locations by the Chairman of Awgu LGA, Hon. Stanley Okeke, members representing Awgu North and South state constituencies, Hon. Mrs. Jane Eneh and Hon. Johnson Chukwuobasi, respectively, and other stakeholders of the council disclosed that a joint security patrol team will commence extensive surveillance of the affected areas to ensure maximum security and strict compliance with the directives.
