APC Governors back Lawan/Gbajabiamila for National Assembly leadership

Ahead of the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly, Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the platform of the Progressives Governors Forum have reportedly endorsed Senator Ahmad Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as their candidates for Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representative respectively.

It was gathered that the governors at the end of their inaugural meeting in Abuja on Sunday night, asked all elected party senators to vote for the two leaders, stating that they stood by the decision of the national leadership to back the two candidates.

Kebbi State governor and chairman of the APC governors’ forum, Atiku Bagudu, addressing journalists after the meeting stated that they believe the leadership of the party took the right decision when it opted to support Lawan and Gbajabiamila for the principal offices.

Asked on their position on other offices, he said they were party offices and the party will take a decision on that.

He added that the governors were solidly behind the President as the leader of the party and were prepared to work with him to take the nation to the next level.

Those present at the meeting which took place at the Kebbi Governor’s lodge in Asokoro are Governors of Kebbi, Edo, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kano, Jigawa, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Gombe, Niger and the Deputy Governors of Borno and Kaduna States.

Governors of Katsina, Ogun, Ondo and Yobe states were absent and did not send representatives.
