An Abia State born journalist, Don Norman Obinna has been arrested in Umuahia, the state capital where he was a guest in a live radio programme in one of the local radio stations (Flo FM) in the state.

Obinna who was a former media consultant to Senator Theodore Ahamefule Orji and Editor-in-Chief Realm Newspaper is said to have been criticizing his former boss and incumbent Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s performance in steering the ship of the state.

The police is yet to come out with official report as to why they invaded the radio station’s studio to effect the arrest of Obinna in a Gestapo manner.

Infonet9ja.com recalled that Obinna who was declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force some weeks back obtained court injunction, restraining the police from arresting him and as well filing a fundamental human right case against the police.

The State Government through her Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu in a statement distanced itself from Obinna’s arrest.

In the statement, Kalu explained that Abia State Government did not send any petition against Don Norman and have no hands in his current travails with law enforcement agents.

But he went further to reveal that the travail may be connected to an alleged cyber-crime petition filed by his former boss Senator T.A Orji.

For a while, Obinna, an indigene of Umuahia Ibeku has been publishing materials allegedly exposing the government of Senator T.A Orji when he was governor of Abia State and had even went ahead to publish a book.

“For the avoidance of doubt, ABSG did not send any petition against Don Norman and we have no hand in his current travails with law enforcement agents.

“I personally learned of his arrest, over a petition on cybercrime, from the media. I understand there was an existing arrest warrant dating back to last year when he was declared wanted by the police who swooped on him when they learned he was on a live radio program in Umuahia.

“However, information reaching us is that the alleged cybercrime was committed against a former boss of his.

“As can be verified from the petition against him, Abia State Government is not in any way involved in his travails.

Thank you.
