Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has called on Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) and Security Agencies to provide a level playing ground for all political parties to ensure that the free,fair and credible elections glamoured for will be achieved in the next month general elections across the country.
Dr Ikpeazu who made the call during the 2019 Abia Town Hall Summit with the theme ” Nmepe na nchekwa ime obodo anyi” Organized by Association of Abia State Town Union in Partnership with Hope Givers Initiatives held at the Abia Hotel Umuahia said the time has come for Ndi Igbo to reflect and take a common stand on issue that borders on the way forward and the best side that will favour the Igbo nation.
The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu described the gathering of Town Union leaders and their members from the South East zone as very timely as it will enable them sensitize their people on the need to present a united front in bringing in the right direction and candidates that will have positive impact on them both politically and economically.
He pointed out that his present administration has adopted several measures to carry along various Town Unions in the state to ensure that projects embarked upon in various communities are not duplicated and geared towards meeting the actual needs of the people who should put them into good use by protecting and maintaining them for their own benefit and promised to sustain the partnership it has established with Town Unions in the state and beyond.
In their remarks,the former governor of Anambra state, and PDP Vice President flag bearer, Mr Peter Obi and the Chairman on the Occasion, Chief Acho Nwakanma who advised Ndi Igbo to take a common stand and vote in a credible government that has their interest at heart in the next general election said the summit is an eye opener for the igbos to make good use of the opportunity as voters.
Also speaking , the State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Joseph Iloh represented by Mr Chigozie Godfrey pointed out that with the heating up of the Democratic process ,the summit provides a wonderful opportunity of the union executives across the south east to sensitize and mobilize their people on the need to collect their Permanent Voters Card PVCs which is the only weapon that will enable them elect leaders of their choice.

High point of the summit was the presentation of distinguished awards on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, His Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, former deputy governor, Chief Acho Nwakanma, Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir Christopher Enweremadu among others as well as goodwill message from the president general,Association of Abia Town Unions, Sir George Mgborukwe.
