Police recover guns in uncompleted building in Lagos

Personnel of Task Force on illegal and prohibited firearms under Lagos State Command of Nigeria Police Force have reportedly recovered guns suspected to be abandoned by hoodlums using the Osapa London in Ilasan as their hideout.

The recovery of the firearms, it was gathered took place on November 9.

It was learnt that the team while raiding uncompleted, unoccupied houses and lands suspected to be hideouts for hoodlums found five rifles inside Road 1, Block 1 of Plot 7, Victory Park Estate, Osapa London.

This is just as 11 suspected armed robbers were arrested at a hideout in Elemoro where a Beretta and two locally made pistols were recovered.

Police spokesman Chike Oti, Chief Superintendent (CSP) said the recovered rifles comprised three European made pump actions marked L926547, R268751 and P987707; a locally made double barrel rifle and one locally made single barrel rifle.

He said: “The Commissioner of Police has directed the ballistic arm of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti Yaba to commence investigation into the case.

“He assures that the ember months will remain peaceful in Lagos as the command will continue to carry out intelligence and purpose driven raids on all identified criminal spots in the state.

“He added that the command will continue to enforce the Inspector General of Police (IGP) directive on mopping up of illegal and prohibited firearms; warning that anybody found in possession of such weapons will be diligently prosecuted.”
