Brutality: Woman drag Police officers before Abia State CP

A House wife based in Umuahia, the Abia State capital identified as Mrs. Nkechiyere Madudonu, has reportedly dragged Police officers; Joseph Naake, Ochula, Obinna and other before the state Commissioner of Police Mr. Anthony Michael Ogbizi for allegedly pouring tear gas on her and her four children in her car.

 The incident reportedly happened at a police check point on the old Aba road near the Isi- Court junction some distance from the state capital.

 In a three page petition Madudonu who hails from Umuntu Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area claimed to have been assaulted by the Police officers on her way to pick her children from their School located along Factory road Umuahia.

 The petition which was written by a legal practitioner, Barrister Chukwuemeka Adaiwo ESQ on behalf of Madudonu has it that the team of Police officers stopped her car and requested for the particulars and her driving license.

According to the woman who narrated the account of the incident, she said that she gave them the vehicle papers but discovered that she had left her driving license in her hand bag in her shop.

She said she pleaded with the Policemen to allow her to cross over to her shop and get the license, but they refused and said they must arrest her.

“I pleaded with the police officers for them to allow me go and fetch my driving license. But the officers told me that they would arrest me. They equally collected my car key from me. But after pleading with them for some time, they allowed me to go and get my license.

“When I returned, I gave them my driving license. But having seen the papers and the driving license, they demanded for money from me.

“I insisted that I will not give them any money. Their leader followed me to where they repacked my car and started telling me that he wants to know me more. I told him to forget that and give me my car papers and keys.

“He held my hands but I removed his hand from my hand and asked him to leave me alone.  It was by God’s intervention that I regained my papers and the car key from them.

“But on my way back, after picking my children from School, I equally encountered the same crop of Police Officers who were on the same road – block.

“Having seen me, they stopped me again and I asked them what the problem was again, the one that stopped me laughed and asked me to go, but the one that had insisted l must give them money still blocked me, so I just shifted my hands from the road to pass. But he rather started detonating tear-gas into my car.

“Then, I came down from the car; fell down and started convulsing. The incident attracted passers – by and the said Police Officers ran away from the scene of the incident”.

Madudonu disclosed that it took the intervention of passers-by to revive her, before contacting her husband, Dr. Uche Madudonu who took her to the hospital for medical attention.

She urged the Commissioner of Police to investigate the case of assault against her with a view to bringing the said Police officers to book.

“I was informed that the said police officers are from World Bank Police State Umuahia. The vehicle they used had the inscription Robot 1 Area Command.

“I want the CP to act promptly on the matter so as to fish out the bad eggs in the Nigeria Police forces and bring sanity to the system” she stated.

The Commissioner of Police in the State Mr. Anthony Ogbizi has confirmed the receipt of the Petition.

He said the allegation would be investigated, adding that appropriate disciplinary measures would taken against the said officers if found guilty
