OHANAEZE INSISTS ON RESTRUCTURING, BACKS STATE POLICE

The Apex Igbo body Ohanaeze Ndigbo has once again thrown its weight behind State Police.This is as it insisted that the country cannot move forward until it’s restructured.

Spokesman of the group Chuks Ibegbu in a release issued to the press which was obtained by infonet9ja.com noted that the group believes in state police but stated that the guidelines and operations of the state police should be strictly spelt out to avoid its abuse by politicians.

Ibegbu in the release lamented what he described as “the powerlessness of Governors” in the midst of the ongoing killings in some parts of the country.

According to the release, Governors as chief security officers of their states should have authority over the police to check these challenges in as much as the Security votes they control should be spent judiciously on security alone, he stated.

He warned against any attempt to rig the 2019 elections and called on INEC, Security agents and politicians to keep to the rules of the process to avoid overheating the polity then.

He expressed regret over the insecurity in the country and the killings still going on in the country.

On defections and counter defections in the political polity, Ibegbu noted that the group is not a political party and as such is not concerned about such defections but is interested in the political sanity of the country and the emergence of only credible candidates that will take all Nigeria as their constituency and attend to the welfare of the masses.

He lamented the hardship in the country and the rating of Nigeria as the headquarters of poverty in the world.

On the amity now existing between Ohanaeze Ndigbo and IPOB , Ibegbu noted that it was a welcome development while calling on the Army High command to release the report of the its panel on the killing of pro Biafran activists by elements of the Nigeria Army and also for the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu to be made known.
