The quest for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State to take over power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has received a boost as a Governorship aspirant in 2014 PDP primaries, Barr. Friday Nwosu officially defected to the APC.

Recall that Nwosu has been in court with the incumbent Governor of the state Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu over tax clearance certificate fraud which he claimed Ikpeazu forged.

Nwosu, our reporter gathered was formally presented with his membership card by the chairman of his ward after he registered in his Obingwa ward 4.

Over 50, 000 supporters of Nwosu are expected to join him in APC when he would be formally presented to the State leadership of the party in Umuahia, the state capital.

In a telephone interview with our reporter, Nwosu said that he decided to join the APC because of the injustice meted on him by his former party that he said can no longer accommodate him.

“I decided to join APC on grounds of several conditions and convictions. PDP cannot accommodate me now because some people in the PDP have decided not to be fair to me.

“The major reason is that PDP cannot accommodate me now. PDP has not invited me to any meeting since after January 15, 2015 when former President Jonathan came and campaign in Abia State I even got to know about that visit from Abuja.

“They (PDP) discriminated against me. They haven’t invited me to any meeting. I don’t want to make mention of matters that I know that are in court in addition to the Governorship, something that I contested and lost in court. So, I will be refrained from making statements that will touch on the matters that are in court.

“So the PDP in Abia State have not valued my contribution. Remember that in August 2013 convention I was the lawyer that PDP retained to go court to lift an injunction restraining them from carrying on with that convention.

“I did everything to lift that order of injunction in 2013 for which the 31st August 2013 convention took place.

“Nobody said thank you and I know that I was penalized for my participation in lifting that injunction.

“I paid about N7m from my personal pocket to one Senior Advocate who came after me. The PDP has not been fair to me and I decided to look for another place. The goodness extended to someone who hates you passionately is a wasted grace.

“There are people in PDP who doesn’t like me, so I decided to look for a place where I may not be hated passionately; where I may be offered the opportunity to contribute my quota in the development of my state as a politician that I am.”

“It will amount to self praise if I say this is what I am bringing. But I can tell you that if you do a random sampling among the people of the state about my coming into the APC, they can tell you what my coming into the APC will mean for the party.

“I can tell you that I have tremendous goodwill in Abia State. I am optimistic that my supporters and Abians will join APC because they know that their loyal servant and son is in APC.

“They know that the fortunes of the party will be better off with F.N Nwosu in APC. I can tell you that not less than 50, 000 supporters of mine will be joining APC seeing that I am there.”

Speaking on Nwosu’s membership of the APC, the State chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa disclosed that the party had been negotiating with Nwosu over the years, stating that his (Nwosu) membership would go a long way to strengthen the party in the state.

Nwankp said “Nwosu has come to strengthen the party. His coming portends positive development and growth for the party. It is a good prospect for the reelection of the President as far as the electoral process in Abia State is concern. He is someone that cannot be bought over. It has been a long negotiation and today, he has finally decided to join the party.
