Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife have hailed the dismissal of the lecturer involved in the sex for marks scandal in the institution,  Professor  Richard Akindele.

Chairman of Acting Security Committee, Gbenga Olorunniran said the university management has done the right thing since the lecturer was found culpable of the offence.

“The varsity management has set a good standard and they have done the right thing. This will serve as an example to others. The sex saga has gone viral and the university could as well sweep the issue under the carpet, but they didn’t, but they ensured justice is maintained.

“The management should not be autocratic on student in the sense that if any student does something the management should be able to summon the student to the disciplinary committee instead of just going ahead to close the students’ portal. Even though everyone knew what the Lecturer did he was still interrogated” he said

It has brought hope and sanity to the educational system and this will make the varsity proud and outstanding amidst other schools.  This will also serve as a warning bell to lecturers of department and faculty so as to desist from the evil act of harassing students”

“I hope the university continues like this and be able to maintain discipline amongst the lecturers and students” he added

How will he feed his family and children? The University Management should not look at the issue with just ordinary eyes but with spiritual eyes because it might not be intentional”

“The management should look for a better option to punish him rather than sacking him from what he has built all the days of his life” she added
