The Abia State leadership of the Labour Party (LP), says that the party is preparing strongly to go into the 2027 general elections.
The state chairman of Labour Party, Hon. Peter Chigozie, in a media chat on Monday, in Umuahia, the state capital boasted that the party would win the state in a landslide victory come 2027.
Hon. Chigozie whose leadership would be marking its 100 days in the office in few days, noted that the party in the state is stable and has structurally spread across the 184 wards in the state with its presence at the grassroots, unlike what they met on the ground before the 2023 general elections.
“We have structurally spread across the 17 local government areas of the state, which is the reason the Labour Party today has witnessed the influx of members into the party in recent times.
“Abians feel liberated and now have the pride of being called Abians.
“Labour Party is on ground more than any other political party in the state. The likes of Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe and Chief Reagan Ufomba who recently joined the Labour Party wouldn’t have joined the party if the party is not on ground.”
The state Labour Party chairman who disclosed that the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party have been carrying its duties unhindered and without the interference of the Governor of the state, said that they have enjoyed good and harmonious working relationship with Gov. Alex Otti.
On the political future of Governor Otti, considering that the 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate; Mr. Peter Obi, on whose political popularity, Gov. Otti was said to have won in 2023, Hon. Chigozie, who recalled the political journey of Governor Otti, insisted that Otti has been winning elections even without the Obi wave.
According to him, “the love Abians have for Governor Alex Otti was natural. Without the Obi wave, Gov. Otti have been winning elections in the state. Without Obi wave in 2027, Gov. Otti will still win.”
He also affirmed that the party has candidates to contest all the political seats in the state in the 2027 general elections.
The state Labour Party chairman who maintained that the party doesn’t have faction in the state, said that the party was ever ready to welcome any Nigerian that is wiling to join the party.
On what the party under his leadership has been able to achieve within the first 100 days in office, Hon. Chigozie noted that the leadership of the party in the state within few days in office were able to organise a rancour free primaries.
He added that the SWC under his leadership was committed to making the party stronger and open as he insisted that the Labour Party is a party that supports any government that has the interest of the people at heart.
He also disclosed that his administration has a clear road map that will help to drive vision of Governor Otti to bring positive transformation to the political space of the state.
