The leader of pro-democracy group, RevolutionNow and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore and the younger brother of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Prince Emmanuel Kanu on Thursday joined residents and sympathizers of Nnamdi Kanu to a one million march peaceful protest in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State.

Our correspondent who monitored the protest report that the leader of team of soldiers from Nigerian Army, 14 Brigade Headquarters, Ohafia, attached to 144 Battalion, Ukwa West local government area of the state who arrived A Line, Ariaria International Market, Aba, had accosted the protesters and urged them to disengage from the protest.

According to the team leader, the protest going on in the market poses great danger to the traders, their businesses and visitors to the Ariaria International market.

He advised them to obtain proper clearance from constituted authorities to hold their peaceful protest outside the market.

However, while the leader of the army personnel was still addressing some of the protesters, Sowore and Prince Kanu who apparently may have been informed about attempt by the soldiers and members of other security personnel to disperse the protesters stormed the A line where they demanded that the protesters should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to peaceful protest.

According to our correspondent, Sowore in the company of Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother led the protesters from A line, through the popular Enyimba junction, off Ariaria International Market.

From Enyimba junction, the protesters marched through the popular Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway to Ariaria junction where Sowore addressed the protesters.

However, mild drama played out at the A Line section of Faulks road as team of police personnel in an attempt to disperse the crowd started shooting teargas canisters at the protesters and also were shooting live ammunition into the air sporadically.

This created tension among shop owners and visitors along the Ariaria International Market and shop owners along Faulks road, as they were forced to close shops abruptly in an attempt to avoid being hit by stray bullets.

Addressing the protesters, Sowore said that his decision to join the peaceful march for the release of Nnamdi Kanu is join forces with the residents of Aba and the southeast for speak against injustice meted against one of their sons.

Sowore who demand that President Bola Tinubu should directed the immediate and unconditional release of Kanu from Sokoto Prison said sending Kanu to jail by Justice Omotosho was a wrong decision by the federal government.
