Members of the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, elected individuals that will pilot the affairs of the party in the next four years.
The chairman of the party, a former Minority Leader in the Abia State House of Assembly and member representing Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu and other 52 members of the party executive emerged through consensus process.

Recall that The Nation had reported that Hon. Chukwu emerged as the chairman-elect of the party at a harmonization meeting of party stakeholders in Abuja, where the former chairman of the party, Kingsley Ononogbu was unanimously ousted from office.
The state congress which held at the premises of Chidiebere Transport Yard in Umuahia, the state capital was monitored by the Abia Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Rep, Christopher Chukwuemeka Ibeziakor with other INEC staff, and among heads of various security agencies in the state.
Also present at the congress were members of APC Abia State Congress Committee led by Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar, former speaker Plateau House of Assembly.
Speaking at the event, some of the leaders of the party, including APC National Welfare Secretary, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, Sir Marc Wabara and among others expressed their happiness on the smooth conduct of the Congress, stressing that it is a sign that APC is indivisible and ready to take over governance in the state in 2027.
Thanking the President Bola Tinubu for his wisdom in uniting the party, the party leaders said that Abia APC having had a free rancourous state congress serves as a role model to other states of the federation.
The Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu in his speech thanked the party faithful for their peaceful disposition throughout the process.
Kalu said that the smooth conduct of the state Congress is an indication that APC is more united and poised to not only deliver over 80percent of their votes to the President, but to take over governance in the state in 2027.
He also called for more and aggressive grassroots membership by members of the party.
In his speech, the chairman of the state congress committee, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar, expressed his satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the congress and thanked the leaders of the part for resolving to speak in one voice in the choice of the leaders of the party.
In his acceptance speech, the APC State chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu pledged to work for the unity of the party and to run an open door administration with members of his team.
Hon. Chukwu called on some of the party members that are still aggrieved to sheath their sword and come to work for the progress of the party.
The newly elected state chairman who disclosed that the party in the state recorded 160,000 membership registration in the e-registration exercise, said that the party was targeting 500,000 membership strength before the general election in 2027.
