The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly arrested the #FreeNnamdiKanu campaign convener and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.
According to his associate and legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, Sowore was apprehended by security operatives shortly after attending the court session of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday morning in Abuja.
Eyewitnesses said Sowore had gone to show solidarity with Kanu during the court proceedings when security officers swooped in and took him into custody.

In video footage ,the activist was seen being escorted by armed police personnel into a black van parked within the court premises.
As of press time, the reason for his arrest remains unclear.
However, Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, has a long history of confrontations with security agencies over his activism and criticism of government policies.
Human rights groups have begun calling for his immediate release, condemning the incident as yet another attempt to suppress dissenting voices in Nigeria’s democracy.
