The leadership of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Thursday, conformed the behe∆ding of a couple, Mr. Jacob Udo and his wife, Mrs. Comfort Udo.
The couple, from Ndiwo, Itumbuzor were beheaded at Isiala autonomous community within Bende local government area headquarter.
It was gathered the killers after beheading them, dismembered their bodies.
This is even as the reasons for such dastardly act has not been unraveled.
The grousome killing of the couple was said to have heightened tension in the area as no one could account or take responsibility for such an ungodly act, while the kinsmen of the deceased were ssid to be threatening reprisal.
A source from the Ndiwo community disclosed that the couple who spent about one year in America on the invitation of their first son, a political scientist and former SUG President in ABSU, just came back to Nigeria last year as the deceased man wanted to be around home.
The source disclosed that the love the couple with four children shared, was the reason the wife who had wanted to stay back in the US followed her husband home.
The source disclosed that the deceased couple were known distribution of Golden Guinea beer and among other company’s beverages.
Their business suffered setback after Golden Guinea went moribund. Hence, the petty trading activities around the Bende metropolis.
Unconfirmed reports have it that two persons have been arrested by the police, while the community youths have gone out to seek the identity of those behind such an act.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, read “Yes, we received such report yesterday at Bende Divisional Headquarters.
“The crime scene has been visited, exhibits recovered, body deposited at the mortuary, and investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu whose constituency th incident happened has condemned in strongest terms the horrific and senseless killing of the couple.
In a statement, the Deputy Speaker said that the heinous act of violence is unacceptable and violates the fundamental human right to life.
Describing it as barbaric, Kalu said that no cause or grievance justifies such brutal and inhumane and dastardly act.
He expressed his sympathies with the victims’ families and called on the state government and the law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough investigation with the aim of apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
He also called for calm and restraints amongst the communities in the constituency, cautioning against reprisal attacks.
Rt. Hon. Kalu assured that the authorities would do the needful to ensure that the killers are found and punished for their crime.
He said: “I unequivocally condemn the brutal killing of the couple. This shocking act of violence contradicts humanity’s basic principles. My thoughts are with the victims’ families and their loved ones.
“I urge the authorities to investigate and bring perpetrators to justice. We stand together against violence and extremism, advocating for a culture of tolerance, respect, and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
“We urge all members of our community to remain calm and exercise caution to prevent escalation.
“The safety and well-being of our citizens are of utmost importance. We understand the emotions and concerns but violence or reprisal attacks will only lead to further suffering and division.”
