It was indeed, a sad Thursday for the Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu community as three out of six students of the state owned university died in a ghastly auto crash.
This is happening less than two weeks a final history student of the institution was killed by a rival cult group after he had finished writing his final year exams.
The three victims, a female and two male and three others were occupants of an ash-coloured Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), Camry, were heading to Aba from the 30th Medical Students Graduation ceremony held at the university’s auditorium which was greeted by families and friends of the graduating medical students.
One of the deceased is identified as Favour Okpanku (a popular family in Isiala Ngwa), a 500 Level Medicine and Surgery student is said to come from Mbutu Ancient Kingdom in Isiala Ngwa North LGA of the state.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Commander, Fredrick Ogiden has confirmed the incident, stating that his men were at the accident scene shortly after the incident.
Reports have it that the accident happened Thursday evening along the Okigwe axis of the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.
Two of the students who sustained severe injuries were said to be battling for their lives at the time of filing the report in a yet-to-be disclosed hospital, as one miraculously survived the crash.
The cause of the accident was not yet known.
But the driver of the vehicle who was said to have been on a high speed and apparently lost control of the vehicle as the car skidded off the road while it summersaulted to land into a nearby bush; where it was brought to halt at it knocked down a palm tree.
The impact of the summersaults, sources say could have resulted to the death and injuries sustained by the occupants.
The only survivor is yet to speak on what happened before the summersaults.

When contacted, the Abia State Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka said “There is no official report to us in any of our police units in Abia state yet, but we have heard from social media and unofficial sources, we will make Inquiries and update you accordingly.”
