Jubilation In Abia Poly As Rector Announces Payment Of January Salary

It was a charged atmosphere at the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba on Wednesday as the Acting Rector, Engr. Dr. Chidinma Ndukwe announced that workers would start receiving their January salary before the end of work, today.

 

Our correspondent who was in the school when the news broke reports that staff of various departments of the institution who were still discussing the rumour that they would receive payment for their January salary by next week, when fillers from the administrative block emerged that the acting rector of the school received the monthly subvention of the school from the state government.

 

According to our correspondent, while the staffers of the institution who were just returning from a prayer meeting organised by the management of the school were hoping that the management pays their January salary by next week as they were anticipating, news from the accounts department broke that the acting rector has confirmed receipt of their subvention for January and subsequently ordered the payment of the worker’s salary immediately.

The elated workers went wild in jubilation as they could not hold their joy, with some of them already thinking on how to pay their children/ward’s school fees and how to renew their house rents.

 

They said that it has never happened in the history of the school that, they received their salary at the end of every month, adding that the governor of the state whom they thanked for paying their thirteenth month salary in December has broken the jinx and has consistently payed their salary since his assumption of office in May 29, 2023.

 

They appealed to the governor of the state to come to their aids in clearing the arrears of salary owed them by the previous governments.

 

In an interview with the acting rector, Engr. Chidinma Ndukwe, confirmed that she has received the subvention for the month of January from the government and has also instructed that the January salary of workers should commence immediately.

 

According to the acting rector, “The governor releases our subventions each month. This government has not failed. Our salaries are coming regularly.

“We are Indeed living with hope alive mentality and with the way this government is going, we are assured that our arrears of salary will be paid.

 

“Governor Otti is not just a blessing, but a man sent by God to rebuild Abia State and he is working; he is interested in human beings, making people happy and restoring people’s lives.

 

“Before the coming of Dr. Alex Otti, the staff were so depressed; you just see nonchalant attitude among staff. But now that our welfare is being taken care of, their hope has been restored and it has boosted their morale as well.

 

“You can see the joy on their faces. They are relaxed because they are sure that they are not working in vain.

 

“It is now that we understood the portion of the Bible that says that a labourer is worthy of his wages. We worked and we are now paid at the end of the month.

“We are happy with this government and they have our support.

 

“I don’t know how to thank Governor Alex Otti for what God is using him to do in Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.

 

“We are promising the governor that we will be faithful in our work and to make sure that we impact positively on the young ones. The governor will not be disappointed in the investment that he is making in Abia State Polytechnic Aba. We will help him achieve his mandate in Abia State Polytechnic.

 

“We are happy that many people who have gone through Abia Poly are representing us well in their different areas of endeavour.”

She disclosed that the school has witnessed more applications from prospective students to their school since the incumbent administration of the state and the polytechnic, adding that, they were expecting more students to enroll in the ongoing 2023/24 academic year.
