The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Abia Industrial Innovation Park (AIIP), Chinedu Onyeizu, has urged world leaders to prioritize investment in Industrial Parks in Africa to achieve effective war on climate change in the region.
Speaking on the sidelines of the recently-concluded United Nations Conference on Climate Change tagged “COP28” which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Engr. Chinedu Onyeizu said that eco-industrial parks have proven to be the best centres for achieving the objectives of the climate change initiative in record time.
He said that eco-industrial parks like the Abia Industrial Innovation Park are designed to transform flared gas in the Niger Delta to productive use and environment friendly by-products.
In his words, he said, “We shall ensure companies operating in the park commit to net-zero waste and emissions policies, and also integrate sustainable design in facilities and sites.”
Onyeizu further said that eco-industrial parks, as a deliberate policy, utilize clean production and eco-efficient technologies and processes.
Explaining the rationale behind the establishment of AIIP, the petroleum engineer said, “At Abia Industrial Innovation Park, we envision a world where boundaries blur, industries intersect, and innovation knows no limits.
“Our vision is to create an ecosystem for future industrial transformation of Africa powered by innovation and green technology.”
According to him, “AIIP offers investors and subscribers access to domestic and export markets, shared infrastructure, and a supportive eco-system for growth.
“We do this through the provision of a reliable and affordable power supply, a clean water system, fiber optic copper lines, on-site management offices; 24-hour security and emergency services and a large pool of qualified workforce.”
AIIP, he said, features economic clusters, including manufacturing; industrials; logistics; energy; and real estate.
Giving a breakdown of activities in the park in less than three months of its existence, Onyeizu disclosed that there is an increase in expression of interest from reputable companies in acquisition of subscription forms and participation.
He said that an indigenous oil and gas company, HSI Energy Resources Limited in collaboration with its technical partners VFuels LLC, an oil and gas servicing and design company based in Houston, United States, has concluded plans to build a world-class modular refinery in the park.
Similarly, Total Energies Limited, he said, has indicated interest in acquiring a large expanse of land for her newly-established Total Energies Renewable Energy Production Company Limited.
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), a federal parastatal under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources formerly headed by Mr. Simbi Wabote, is also finalizing plans to build an industrial skill acquisition centre in the park.
Onyeizu, further disclosed that a Chinese company, China Overseas Engineering Group Ltd, would be paying on-the-spot assessment tour of the site in the next couple of weeks, adding that a number of manufacturing companies have indicated interest to acquire spaces in the park and on Friday, 24th of November, 2023 MTN’s technical team moved into the site to start the preliminary survey for fiber optics laying across the industrial park.
The AIIP helmsman said that construction work on the site has been slated for the second quarter of 2024 and assured the public and investors that AIIP would usher in accelerated development of Abia state in record time, even as he said that over 2500 direct and indirect jobs would be created when the park is fully operationalized.
