Facts have emerged Friday evening as to why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended the Central Bank Governor (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
In a statement issued by Willie Bassey
Director, Information, For: Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Emefiele was suspended from office as a result of an ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the country’s economy.
Recall that before the 2023 general elections, during the campaigns, now President Tinubu had accused the CBN Governor of targeting him with the introduction of the redesigned new naira notes.
It was however not surprising that Tinubu suspended Emefiele as many within the financial sector had speculated that Emefiele may not serve out his tenure with the emergence of Tinubu as the President of the country.
Bassey in the statement disclosed that Emefiele has been asked to hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor in-charge of Operations Directorate until the investigation against him was concluded.
Below is the unedited statement announcing Emefiele’s suspension from office
