Abia Assembly Passes Bill Allowing Female Children Share In Parent’s Inheritance

Welcome to another Legislative Day in the 7th Abia State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji led Principal Officers into the hallowed chamber.

Hon Emeka Okoroafor, Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency led the opening prayer.

In the absence of any Petition, Personal Explanation and Matter of Urgent Public Importance, the Speaker read out letters from the Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, detailing the House about the confirmation of the following persons:

a. Justice Lilian Agbai as the Chief Judge of the State

b. Rt Hon Cosmos Ndukwe as the Commissioner of Works in the State.

c. The nominated 17 Local Government Area Transition Chairmen and their Deputies.

In a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Paul Taribo and seconded by Member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon Mike Onyekwere Ukoha, the House dissolved into quasi plenary.

The Sergeant at Arms ushered in Rt Hon Cosmos Ndukwe, the Speaker welcomed him to the hallowed chambers and asked him to introduce himself to the House which he did.

The Speaker said the nominee was a ranking member of the House who held an exalted position of a Deputy Speaker and should be accorded that deserved respect.

He therefore asked Rt Hon Cosmos Ndukwe to take a bow and go.

The Sergeant at Arms ushered in Justice Lilian Agbai into the Chambers

After her introduction, the Speaker thanked the Acting Chief Judge for her stability and responsiveness while she acted as the Chief Judge of the State.

He urged her to be efficient and show professionalism in the discharge of her duties,the Speaker therefore asked Justice Lilian Agbai to take a bow and go.

The Sergeant at Arms ushered in the nominated 17 Local Government Area Transition Chairmen and their Deputies namely:

1. Stanley Ogbonna – Chairman Aba North LGA
Isdore Egejuru -Deputy

2. Chima Mbama – Chairman, Aba South LGA
Daniel Okereke – Deputy

3. Daniel Kalu – Chairman, Arochukwu LGA
Chief Felix Ukpabi – Deputy

4. Ukwu Rocks Emma- Chairman Bende LGA
John Mark -Deputy

5. Williams Ukatu Chimechefulam- Chairman, Ikwuano LGA
Imo Buchi Stephen- Deputy

After thorough screening by the House Members, the Speaker congratulated the screened Transition Chairmen and their Deputies, he urged them to be proactive in discharge of their duties and take the message of the government progress down to the grassroots.

He admonished them to bury the thoughts that they were appointed to enrich themselves or for personal gains rather they should work hard for the people, help raise standard of lives in their respective areas, provide social services to the people.

In motion moved by the Deputy Leader, Hon Paul Taribo and seconded by Hon Mike Onyekwere Ukoha, the House reconveyed back to full plenary.

The Speaker reported what transpired at the quasi plenary which the House Members agreed in unison.

Other items on the Order Paper were deferred to be considered on another Legislative Day.

ADJOURNMENT

Hon Paul Taribo, Deputy Majority Leader of the House, moved a motion that plenary be adjourned to another Legislative Day.

Hon Mike Onyekwere Ukoha seconded the motion.

Plenary was therefore adjourned to Tuesday, 14th February, 2023.
